Today, Yerba Mate is an essential part of the Paraguayan diet, regardless of their social class and location in the territory. The consumption of mate and terere, is a common element of the inhabitants of the region and its cultural value is evidenced in music, stories, tales, poetry, myths and legends. Declaring the cultural landscape of yerba mate as a world cultural heritage would mean justice to the historical memory of those people who were subjected to the curse of the extractivism of natural resources in Latin America for several decades; similar to the history of the seringueiros of Brazil or the Colombian coffee growers whose identity is deeply rooted in the fruits of their land.
