Interspersed throughout these alternating perspectives are “transcripts” of police interrogations of many of the story’s central characters, each “transcript” casting new suspicion on a different character central to this story—and each “transcript” similarly hinting at the horrific murder that is to come.

She has a big heart which has led her to some questionable decisions in her life, but Alice means well and is such a loving and caring person, even if she is a little scatterbrained. With that out of the way, it irked me to no end that the villain in this case was described at one point as mentally ill. The book has already been praised as “riveting” (Megan Miranda) and “bingeworthy” (Caroline Kepnes), and it’s sure to be one of fall’s must-read crime novels. The book definitely holds the reader tightly from start to finish, there is great dialogue, character interaction and a lot of questions left unanswered as you read both stories, you will absolutely be constantly forming your own versio

Discuss with your group examples from your own life in which you saw or experienced someone making assumptions about intelligence as a result of cultural or language barriers. Simultaneously, Ukranian Lily Monrose, the twenty-one year old newly-arrived bride of Carl, is reporting her husband missing. Many may not have done what Alice did by offering him a warm room and a meal, preferring to contact the police or somewhere else, but this is exactly what she did.I’m so honored to be able to reveal the cover for Vanessa Lillie’s buzz-worthy new mystery here on CBTB today! Three main stories comprise the narrative: A man who has repressed such an awful memory for 22 years that it has put him in a fugue state. Poppy, Floyd’s youngest daughter, however has striking similarities to Ellie, which only leaves Laurel with more questions than answers. Ranked from Christmas level 1 - 5 (with Level 1 being Christmas in the background of the story, and Level 5 being a full-on, 100% Christmas-y plot! The man hasn't a clue where he came from - what his name is -has absolutely no memory of his life whatsoever.

Since then she has written another twenty novels, most recently a number of dark psychological thrillers, including The Girls, Then She Was Gone, The Family Upstairs and The Night She Disappeared. All of these characters have some kind of connection to one another and the reader slowly unravels that connection as the story progresses. When her lifeless body is eventually discovered, Ana is sent to the big city to collect Bee’s belongings from her apartment. Sometimes you just need to read a really fun psychological thriller—and that’s the boat I found myself in last week.

In fact, Jewell does such an excellent job putting her characters forefront that the twist was all the more shocking for its darkness—I had almost forgotten I was reading a book that had been compared to The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl. Lily starts to dig into her husband's past in an effort to put the pieces together and nothing will ever be the same again. CL Taylor, author of The Missing 'I defy you to put this addictive book down until you reach the final heart-breaking page.

Huge thanks to Vanessa and her publisher for giving us this early sneak peek—I can’t wait to read BLOOD SISTERS this fall! Secrets abound in this neighborhood, and readers witness them firsthand through Jewell’s multiple narrators, and through a birds-eye view provided by Freddie, the neighborhood’s resident chronicler. I had mixed feelings about Lily, she may do that to you to as a character, sometimes I felt sorry for her and admired her tenacity pursuing the hunt for her husband, other times she just came across as a bit cold.A healthy dose of drizzly, overcast weather sets the atmospheric mood for this story, and cinematic and sinister details (for example: a mysterious, seemingly-abandoned mansion perched on the hilltop overlooking the town) bring this surprisingly chilling and moody setting to life. She has made it clear to Alice that she doesn't approve of the stranger Alice has brought into her house. When she finally gets the police to take her seriously they tell her something that shocks her to her core. Drawn in from the first page, this was a very enjoyable story with unique and intriguing characters, and a great plot. I found all three stories interesting and engaging and they had me questioning who is who, who is the bad guy here and who should I trust and trying to figure out their hidden secrets.
