Overall, this was a brilliant, raw, poignant and much-needed story about how fairy tales, happily ever after and society are not always what you think, that there is a dark and sinister layer just hidden underneath the surface and sometimes, you just have to go stamp on it.I neither liked her, nor disliked her, except to find her instant lust/love towards Constance to be one-dimensional and unbelievable. This book, for someone who is still into that genre (and maybe a few years ago that would have been me), is perfect. But Sophia doesn't want to be chosen - she's in love with her best friend, Erin, and hates the idea of being traded like cattle.

Adaptational Heroism: Cinderella's step-family were very straight-forward bad guys in the original fairy tale and were intensely jealous of her for managing to gain the attention of the prince.

They realize the most dangerous men are the ones who sit in plain sight daring to be challenged, and they’re determined to do more than challenge them. However, Morris also puts a claim on Sophia, voiding Luke’s claim and resulting in his imprisonment. This one was an incredible take on a story that we all think was filled with love and happiness, it takes away the pristine façade and it completely bulldozes through it all.

If I had one criticism, it would be that the story was a little one-sided; all of the main female characters are strong and brave, whereas nearly all of the men are bullies or misogynists. She's so annoying, and just because she is not brave enough to run away doesn't mean she has to pull Sophia down with her!Failure to comply will result in imprisonment and seizure of all assets belonging to your immediate family. Thank you so much to Candyce for buddy reading this book with me, I loved this buddy read so much and it was great discussing it all with you! There is almost more attention paid to using the story as a vehicle to critique misogyny and homophobia than creating an engaging world. An unapologetic roar at the conventional fairytale, Cinderella is Dead challenges readers with a whole new story of justice, revenge, and queer love. Her romance with Constance, while having its cute moments, was very rushed and could have been better developed.

It's so bad that soldiers can casually talk about killing their old wives to get new younger ones right in the open. I am an avid reader and I love fantasy, historical fiction, mysteries, children’s and middle grade stories, but I will read just about anything if it sounds like my cup of tea.
