Calling the Shots: How to Win in Football and Life by David Calling the Shots: How to Win in Football and Life by David

This book covers the years from being a supporter to becoming a very busy director; transforming Arsenal; starting the premier league and making football the multi million pound business it is today. The long-awaited memoir from international football ambassador, former co-owner of Arsenal FC and legend of the David Dein. Now sanctioned in the aftermath of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, Usmanov – often referred to as Putin’s favourite oligarch – would have been a disastrous owner for Arsenal had he been able to gain control. There are also some fascinating sections on the formation of the premier league and corruption surrounding World Cup bids which are worth reading too. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

He was a prime mover in the creation of the Premier League, hugely influential within the England set-up and, of course, was the mastermind – along with Arsène Wenger – in creating the glory days of Arsenal Football Club, leading the team for almost a quarter of a century. I learned so much from David’s book: about business, innovation, risk-taking, management, leadership, dealing with people, football, love… and life.

Calling The Shots: How To Win At Football And Life by David

There’s no doubt that Dein has been one of the most significant and influential figures in British football for over three decades – operating at club and international level. I became leas interested in the book when it dwelt at length with his involvement with international football and prisons. Although I recognise that he did one major thing for Arsenal, recruiting Arsene Wenger,he also made one major blunder in recruiting Stan Kronke. Of course, since he was “in the room where it happened”, David explains how the Premier League was founded and why key Arsenal management decisions were made. The long-awaited memoir from international football ambassador, former co-owner of Arsenal FC and legend of the game: David Dein. I was really worried when I read all the business jargon and the deals didn’t really interest me at all, although, as the book progressed, there were so many pleasant surprises, such as pioneering women’s football, campaigning against racism, and offering offenders a path into the game which really impressed me. In that famous free agency deal for Campbell, Tottenham Hotspur’s captain, the pair would take long walks around Dein’s Totteridge garden at night with the latter offering reassurance in the build-up to the announcement. David’s strengths are that he is passionate, loyal, a visionary, and willing to take risks as well as sees the best in people and that opportunities accompany change. It is clear that his ousting from the board still rankles with him,as does the fact that he was not appointed back on the board when Kronke took control.

David Dein’s explosive Constable nets football heavyweight David Dein’s explosive

David has impacted and changed lives countless times in and and out of Football and continues to do so. He was a prime mover in the creation of the Premier League, hugely influential within the England set-up and, of course, was the mastermind - along with Arsene Wenger - in creating the glory days of Arsenal Football Club, leading the team for almost a quarter of a century. All profits from the book will go to his charity “The Twinning Project” that unites each professional club with every prison in England and Wales.

The book is thrilling for the way it finally shines light on such a private institution and the deterioration of Dein’s relationship with other Arsenal boardroom heavyweights including his former friend, the late Danny Fiszman. The long-awaited memoir of David Dein - international football ambassador and former co-owner and vice-chairman of Arsenal F. Biography: David Barry Dein MBE (born 7 September 1943) is the Ambassador for the Premier League and International Ambassador for the Football Association.
