About this deal

The venue was the Louisiana Hayride, a Shreveport music hall showcasing an incendiary new talent known around town as the “Hillbilly Cat.” Once the Colonel lays eyes on that baby-faced hipster, Presley’s fate is cast. Tom Hanks plays the Dutch-born Parker as a Machiavellian Foghorn Leghorn, equipped with a cowboy hat, an unknowable accent, and a body suit that seems to have been inflated with Flubber gas—it’s a wonder he doesn’t bounce from scene to scene.

a few times along the way. Frequent musical performances are unsurprisingly a highlight, from the boisterous but more intimate locales seen in Elvis'Viva Australia: Recreating Iconic Locations for Elvis (HD, 8 Mins.) - Luhrmann is Australian and he and a few others talk about how Australia and Los Angeles were used as the locations for the film.

ultimately a purely digital image through and through, and one with a varied color palette that ranges from dark and muted to almost candy-colored in youth to the star-making concert during which he first met "Colonel" Tom Parker and, of course, the much more grandiose stage shows that frequentlyImmediately you will undoubtedly notice that the height channels are used very tastefully for mostly the music and sound effects, to help build this large sound (as mentioned) which seems very fitting about this Atmos mix. The music here, all throughout, is driven primarily from the front left & right channel speakers, along with a very nice amount of rear channel presence, and (as mentioned) across the height channel speakers. musical icons is at least worth a once-over and, if nothing else, those more receptive to Luhrmann's very specific style of filmmaking may find counterpart, Warner Bros.' 1080p transfer still offers a very crisp and faithful representation of Elvis' specific appearance.

reasonably accurate portrayal of what you'll see on a properly calibrated setup -- and if you're upscaling to 4K, it may prove to be more impressive still. Alongside that, Luhrmann makes an awful lot of use of sound effects and there’s a beautiful dynamic range to them, again utilising the same balanced tonal mix of the music. Add in the perfectly captured dialogue that’s always clear (when it should be – some of Elvis’s songs have dropped words and slightly muffled lines, but that’s in keeping with the performance aspect of the design) and all three elements are in perfect harmony, delivering a wonderfully complex and layered mix that is an effortless and delightful listen. Dialogue, starting with narration, is delivered distinctly from the center channel and mixed perfectly balanced, with zero need for any volume adjustments to be made throughout. Sound effects get mixed into the front and rear channels, not just the height channels (again, as mentioned) and it creates one massive audio experience here. Again, fitting for the person the film is about. aren't yet equipped for Atmos), Elvis routinely takes full advantage of the format with a wide-open and, at times, incredibly immersive sound Fit for a King: The Style of Elvis– Essentially the same as the others, though this one focuses on the costume design.

Martin, producer Schuyler Weiss, and other key cast/crew members speak about the challenges and joys of adapting Elvis' life for the big screen

Elvis” [2022] on 4K UHD Blu-ray is presented in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ forms of high dynamic range. The movie was shot digitally in 4.5K and 6.5K resolutions using the Arri Alexa 65 and Arri Alexa LF cameras with special Panavision Primo, Sphero 65, T-Series “Elvis” and Petzval Lenses. Essentially, what Baz Luhrmann describes is that they used different lenses for the three different decades that are primarily focused on Elvis Presley’s life here. The director actually said the following (below) in one of the extras included with this release. Musical Moments (19 clips, 46:19 total) - Think of these as song chapter selections; all of the performed songs and It’s certainly worth noting that the critics like the film, so much that it carries [at the time of writing] a “Certified Fresh” badge over at Rotten Tomatoes. Also, unlike any previous biographies about Elvis, this one ended up being approved (after release) by Priscilla Presley and Lisa Marie Presley as discussed in this Entertainment Weekly article. And yet Luhrmann and his cadre of screenwriters decide to cut through it all with some stark and brave narrative choices……frame the entire film as a medicated fever dream of Elvis’s long-term manager/nemesis Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks), which not only turns the entire thing into less of a straight-forward biopic and more a battle for the soul of Elvis, but also justifies the assault on the senses that Luhrmann delivers in his typical OTT brand of cinematic excess. Anyone familiar with the visual style of Baz Luhrmann will know what to expect with Elvis. There are broad, sweeping shots that make you think “how did the camera get there?”, but it works. The 2.39:1 HEVC 4K image is certainly nothing to balk at with copious amounts of detail showcasing every bead of sweat on the King’s face. HDR comes in handy as well giving us a bit deeper color depth which really shines in the Las Vegas segment. This looks as good as you think it would. Audio: How’s it sound?

Conclusion

Trouble” Lyric Video (2 minutes, 15 seconds – HD) is performed by Austin Butler, consists of clips from the film, and gives lyrics along the way. This is very cool. only quibble is that it seems mixed a few decibels lower than reference level, which includes the LFE channel, but listeners most will find this to be a Elvis has survived the down-conversion to 1080p surprisingly well, especially considering it contains more than 2 1/2 hours of HD content and a Director Baz Luhrmann, who's been coasting on the strength of Moulin Rouge! for over 20 years and whose last project was 2013's abysmal The Great Gatsby, turns his peculiar gaze on The King
