Famous detective Hercule Poirot happens to be enjoying a holiday on the same Nile cruise. Although on vacation, his companion Colonel Race happens to be on the same voyage on a tip that a serial killer is also vacationing there under an assumed identity. All goes smoothly until late one night Linnet Doyle nee Ridgeway is murdered in her cruise cabin. Put in charge of the investigation, Race entrusts Poirot in bringing the murderers to justice. The main detective here is Poirot and Colonel Race helps him and I love their dynamics in this story! I keep discovering new things about Agatha and I can see their influence in the story, just like the fact that she worked as a nurse during the war and that she really did visit Egypt and you can tell by how realistic her writing is! I was actually grinning like a fool when she mentioned the donkey boys and the way they spoke English was very funny yet very true!

When Poirot meets Race, Christie writes: "Hercule Poirot had come across Colonel Race a year previously in London. They had been fellow-guests at a very strange dinner party—a dinner party that had ended in death for that strange man, their host." Pero al final, creo que se torna previsible por las motivaciones. Y eso es porque ya tengo encima varios de sus libros leídos y he notado que se repite cierto patrón. Lo único que sé es que de ahora en adelante leeré sus próximos libros con la alegría de ver si seré capaz de descubrir al criminal y no tanto por esperar algún tipo de plot twist en la trama. First released on November 1st, 1937, Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile is considered one of her finest novels spanning a long and illustrious career as a mystery writer. Death on the Nile marks the 18th of Christie's Hercule Poirot novels and sees the titular detective deduce a series of murders aboard the Karnak as it travels down the river Nile. In addition to Branagh's retelling, Death on the Nile has received several other adaptations, including John Guillermin's dazzling 1978 film, a BBC radio adaptation, a graphic novel, and even a sleuth-themed video game. About to reveal the identity of the murderer, Poirot credits the experience recounted in Murder in Mesopotamia with developing his methods in detection. You take away the loose earth, and you scrape here and there with a knife until finally your object is there, all alone, ready to be drawn and photographed with no extraneous matter confusing it. Another film adaptation, also called Death on the Nile, directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, was released on February 11, 2022. It is the follow-up to the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express. Some characters and details are either omitted or differ from the novel, while the elements of the central murder remain unchanged. Bouc replaces the character of Tim Allerton, and he is joined by his mother, Euphemia. Salome Otterbourne is now a jazz singer and no longer a drunk, while Rosalie is her niece whom she adopted. Bouc is the third person killed instead of Salome Otterbourne. Linnet's lawyer Andrew is now also her cousin, and Mrs. Van Schuyler and Miss Bowers are a lesbian couple. Mrs. Van Schuyler is also the godmother of Linnet. All the suspects are friends of the married couple who have invited them to their honeymoon celebration. A World War I romance is invented for Poirot, and it is hinted that Poirot and Otterbourne have romantic feelings for each other. A live television version of the novel under Murder on the Nile was presented on 12 July 1950 in the US in a one-hour play as part of the series Kraft Television Theatre. The stars were Guy Spaull and Patricia Wheel. A lush setting, elegant and mysterious characters, lively dialogue, and murder combine to make a very satisfying read. I had fun working alongside Poirot, who naturally won’t share all of his ideas with anyone, including the dear reader. I thought I had it figured out a few times, but I’m easily fooled by all the red herrings. That’s okay, I like being distracted by it all! Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, came out in 1920. During her first marriage, Agatha published six novels, a collection of short stories, and a number of short stories in magazines. In addition to Tim and Rosalie, there is another unexpected love match: Cornelia Robson accepts Dr. Bessner's proposal, to the stupefaction of Mr. Ferguson, who had been courting her, in his own uncouth way, during the whole trip.

My first experience with Agatha Christie was actually watching the film adaptation of Death on the Nile from 1978 staring Peter Ustinov. While I do not think of Ustinov as the definitive Poirot by any means, for the longest time his take was how I viewed the character. While this is not a review of the film, I will say that it is a lovely film and well worth a watch. Love is not everything, Mademoiselle,’ Poirot said gently. ‘It is only when we are young that we think it is.” In 2019, Swiss publisher Editions Paquet released a French graphic novel adaptation of the story entitled Hercule Poirot: Mort sur le Nil. I find [the 1990s TV] adaptations a little too white, too conservative, too Middle-England-y," continues Bernthal-Hooker. Poirot does his Poirot thing and it seems anybody could have killed Linnet, but fingers soon point to Linnet's godmother Marie Van Schuyler (Jennifer Saunders) after the gun is recovered from the ocean floor wrapped in Marie's scarf.

THE AUTHOR: Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, DBE was an English writer known for her sixty-six detective novels and fourteen short story collections, particularly those revolving around fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. (Wikipedia) While taking a tour of some ancient ruins, a boulder falls from a cliff, narrowly missing Linnet and Simon. They suspect Jacqueline at first but find out she was on the boat the whole time and could not have done it. Branagh has thinned out the passenger list of the boat and there's no room for Poirot's friend Colonel Race, who has come on board to find a murderer (not Linnet's). Bouc isn't among the passengers in the original novel either and he actually takes the place of the novel's third victim. Also, complete side note, but I'm pretty sure I read this when I was younger and totally forgot I had. It seemed a tad bit familiar to me at times, but I truly remember nothing else of my middle school experience, so who knows?) But it wasn't Andrew who actually killed Linnet... it was Simon. How though, since he was incapacitated by a shot to the leg on the night of the murder? Simple: it was all faked with some red paint and Jacqueline deliberately missed.
