The story of Cast Iron, Steel, and Pure Iron

We are very excited to be returning for River of Light in 2023! We can’t wait to bring our work to the beautiful city of Liverpool alongside a talented line up of local, national and international artists. To relive the memories and events of RiverLight 2023, stay connected and updated by following RiverLight on social media @riverlightfestival and keeping a watchful eye on hub-sleaford.org.uk/riverlight. The buildings are organised to accommodate a wide variety of apartments based on two essential types: one-bed apartments with living and bedroom areas wrapped around a single terrace; and two-bed apartments in which the master bedroom shares an additional terrace area divided from the neighbouring two-bed unit. Four artworks which will form part of one of the UK’s largest free city centre events have been revealed. River of Light will be part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority as the lead authority.

Liverpool BID Company also reported a significant increase in Church Street footfall day-on-day, in comparison with 2019 – week days experienced an increase of nearly 70 per cent, and at weekends it was up by 42 per cent. After the huge success of last year’s event, Sleaford was brought to life with a vibrant celebration of the towns culture and creativity. With the River Slea at its heart, a creative trail winds through the town taking in inspiring artworks, performances, street theatre, live music, trails, dance, flash mobs, puppet shows, food stalls and light projections. The scheme manifests a contemporary architectural language that creates its own rhythm, articulation and colouration to define its unique character and relationship to its riverside context, whilst avoiding monolithic frontages and the overshadowing of neighbouring developments. In landscape terms, each area of the development is conceived as having its own distinct character. The public areas are treated as a revealed river bed with a series of soft, pebble-like forms, while the private courtyards form calm green spaces with heavy tree planting and water gardens. The newly-created river walk – slightly raised to allow views over the river wall to the Thames – brings a 17m-wide boulevard to a previously underused part of the waterfront.

Taking visitors on a journey of history & stories, the festival opened up the unique spaces that make Sleaford so special. Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, Councillor Harry Doyle, said: The 'Lampshades Bouquet' - Created by the French artistic studio TILT who are inspired by everyday objects into giving them a twist of humour and poetry. Expect gigantic outdoor versions of a household lamp, curated in a very special way which will light up in a variety of colours. A bench at each bouquet’s base makes it the most unique location to take the weight off. Although most of the installations making up the 2km out are being kept under wraps, the team can reveal that the following creations will be part of the walking trail: Take time out to come and experience fine dining at Thyme Restaurant, providing comfortable seating, a friendly atmosphere and high quality dishes. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The 2023 theme is United By Light – inspired by the United By Music strapline used when Liverpool was the host city for what is regarded as the most successful Eurovision Song Contest ever. Liverpool’s annual River of Light festival will make its return to the city centre next month, once again showcasing illuminated art installations created by the most innovative light artists from across the world.
