JBL QuantumSURROUND works with every game, but the experience is better when your game outputs in surround sound. If your game outputs only 2-channel audio, using JBL QuantumSURROUND will sound like a pair of studio monitors in front of you. You’ll be able to hear the reflections of the sound in the room, but as with any stereo setup, you won’t have any discrete sound sources behind you. With a full 7.1 mix, you’ll be able to hear and locate sounds behind and above you. The PC hub software is better than the arctis software in my opinion. Has all the same options plus a little more like saving more than 1 custom EQ. The JBL quantum does not work with any JBL mobile apps unfortunately. And unlike the other 2 i had no issue updating the JBL quantum 800. Get the game’s most immersive and accurate surround sound. JBL QuantumSURROUND™*, powered by the JBL QuantumENGINE, puts you at the center of an immersive experience, allowing you to up your game and triumph over the competition. Also equipped with DTS headphone:X v2.0. Available exclusively on PC. Spent been a couple hours trying to update it..only to give up and go to bed to find out the next morning it was up to date mysteriously.

So spend some time dialing in the EQ to your liking, and see how real-world hearing helps you pinpoint enemies and bring the game to life.RGB on earcups: either a pro or a con really - I'm a middle aged man and don't need alternating pink and blue flashing on the sides of my head. The only person who would see it is me catching myself wearing the headphones in the mirror, and wondering what I've done with my life to be wearing these massive glowing cans in my 40s. I’ve been PCMag’s home entertainment expert for over 10 years, covering both TVs and everything you might want to connect to them. I’ve reviewed more than a thousand different consumer electronics products including headphones, speakers, TVs, and every major game system and VR headset of the last decade. I’m an ISF-certified TV calibrator and a THX-certified home theater professional, and I’m here to help you understand 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and even 8K (and to reassure you that you don’t need to worry about 8K at all for at least a few more years). It’s a different experience than you get with other headphones, and may take a little while to adjust to. For example, sounds coming from sources in the distance will seem farther away, as they would in real life. Even though you might be used to those sounds feeling closer with other headphones, JBL QuantumSURROUND provides hyper-accurate spatialization that can give you a competitive edge. The active noise cancellation is perfect for gaming if you either a) want to be completely immersed and b) do not want to listen to Paul Hollywood chatting in Bake Off on the TV in the living room. I did have another unfortunate moment that my fellow Thumb Culture staff can confirm while playing Phasmophobia. Because I was transfixed on the job in hand and was making my way around the dark house searching for evidence of the ghost.

The Quantum 800 features active noise cancellation (ANC), like the Quantum One headset. The difference is that it’s much more useful on the Quantum 800 because of the Bluetooth connectivity; you can connect it to your phone and enjoy ANC when out and about. The ANC button on the headset toggles it on with a long press, and switches between ANC (or non-ANC) listening and a pass-through mode that lets you hear your surroundings clearly with the headset on.Mediocre battery life: 14 hours is enough for me, as I can charge overnight and am rarely playing 14 hours a day - that being said, it's not as good as competitors

Also, the human brain uses small head movements to distinguish if sound sources are behind or in front of us. The brain processes the differences between when a sound arrives at the left vs. the right ear to determine where the sound is located. So with JBL QuantumSPHERE 360, you can move your head naturally to pinpoint the exact source of sounds around you. Music sounds very good on the Quantum 800 when you use the right settings. Like with the Quantum One, I found the bass to sound thin unless you use the Bass Boost EQ preset, which produces a more robust sound that doesn’t sacrifice any clarity in the mids or highs. Curiously, using the QuantumSurround simulated surround mode produces the best balance when listening to music. The mode boosts treble to match the strong bass, and while the result is a somewhat scooped signature that isn’t particularly accurate, it’s an exciting and balanced sound. Stereo and DTS modes don’t boost the higher frequencies, so music can sound a bit flat or (if you use the Bass Boost preset) bass heavy. The Quantum 800’s come with their own dongle using 2.4GHz across the airways. If you have Bluetooth 5.0 then you can also utilise the set’s connection in this way. Unfortunately, you will lose a few of the features that you will only find on the QuantumENGINE PC app. These are features such as adjusting mic settings, EQ, RGB lighting, etc.

I bought 3 headset. The Steelseries Arctis 7+, the Turtle beach stealth 700, and this JBL quantum 800. I've had the first two for about 2 weeks and i wanted a good headset with the same features as the Turtle beach 700. Specifically simultaneously Bluetooth and wireless USB connection use. If the Turtle Beaches weren't so notoriously flimsy with deceptive solidity i would have kept those. So ultimately it is between this 800 and arctis 7+ and i am basically set on keeping these after a few days. The boom microphone is very sensitive and sounds excellent with some tinkering. My first test recordings were filled with sibilance, but after I reduced the microphone volume a bit in the QuantumEngine software, it worked much better. Test recordings after the adjustment were clear and sharp. Get the ultimate competitive advantage with JBL Quantum gaming headsets. Fueled by years of research, we combine precisely engineered headsets with custom, cutting-edge software to put you in the center of the action. Experience hyper-accurate, immersive sound that reveals every detail of the world around you—so you can rise to the top. However, as I mentioned above, the real complicating factor in how the JBL Quantum 800 sounds are the surround sound options. Both the QuantumSURROUND and DTS:X 2.0 settings noticeably alter the audio profile of the headset, and not always in flattering ways. Turning on either setting means two things to varying degrees: mids get less emphasis, and everything else gets boosted, in slightly odd ways. With the DTS setting, it’s a little less noticeable—everything seems louder, for sure, but otherwise sounds normal.Sound pretty decent and can be adjusted to taste with EQ, on a flat curve they sound a bit bass heavy, specially when listening to music. The noise cancellation isn’t quite as strong as Bose’s ANC technology, but the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are twice as expensive as the Quantum 800. In this price range, if you want good ANC (and don’t need a boom mic), the Sennheiser HD 450BT is an excellent pair of headphones with audiophile-pleasing sound. Otherwise, you’ll be spending much more for better noise cancellation. Performance In music, frequency response like this means the sounds of bass guitars or bass drums will come through even louder. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, if you’re a big fan of EDM or even just songs where the rhythm section really drives the momentum.
