My 2 1/2 yearold loved these color sorting mats! Read more about them and get your free printable mat in this post. 2 – One-to-One Correspondence, Counting – Bears on the Dots These counting bear math worksheets will help your child practicing counting, learning about patterns, and even addition. Adult supervision should be provided for childrens’ activities. It is up to the child’s caretakers to determine what is developmentally appropriate and safe for their child. Caretakers have full responsibility for child safety and development. Use one 10- or 12-sided die and one smaller die with each roll. Then subtract the difference and that is the number of bears the player can take.

Extension– Another thing you can do is get each child to grab a handful of bears to count. Then they have to find the number card that matches the amount of bears they have. Teddy Bear Addition Counting Matching Puzzle - This resource contains cards consisting of numbers and visual representations of those numbers in different illustrations. Kids are tasked to match the numbered and picture cards together.

Volibear counter tips

Practice reading number words. Use the correct amount of bear counters to correlate to the number word. Besides being extremely cute, these bears are durable and made of hard plastic. The recommended age is for ages three and older and I would definitely be aware of that if you are considering purchasing these. The bears are rather small and a small child who likes to put items in his or her mouth could easily choke on them. As some other reviewers mentioned, the red and orange bears sometimes look similar in color, depending on the light (I even have trouble occasionally), but if you use them in brighter light, you should be fine.

Measuring with bear counters is an excellent way to introduce preschoolers to measurement. It even gives kids lots of practice with counting and number recognition. After you’ve demonstrated how to tell a few math fact stories, have your child tell you a few! This activity can easily be used with all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Counting Bears Activities

Write and Wipe Addition with Counting Bears– Add up the bears and fill out the laminated worksheet with the answers, then wipe and use again and again. Are you looking to teach colours to your little one? Your counters can come handy. With counters you can do colour sorting activity at home, my son enjoyed it thoroughly. I gave him my colour sorting sheet with counters and he sorted them brilliantly. He continued to measure the length of each item with the counting bears and we recorded each one. When we were done I asked a few questions to get him thinking critically:

This easier method helps child show how actual sharing works. Give them counters and see them finish this sheet all by themselves. This post is part of a new series I am involved in called Learning with Manipulatives. Each Tuesday, a group of bloggerswill be sharing hands-on activitiesyou can do with a specific manipulative. This week we are featuring rainbow counters! Ways to extend the activity: Estimate how many bears it would take to fill in each particular letter. Count them after wards to see how close each estimate was!

Practice skip counting using Bear Counters and a Hundreds Chart: Place a Bear on each multiple of 5 or 10 or your chosen multiple to practice. Have your child choose several bears and divide them into two groups. Write addition and subtraction equations. Practice ordinal numbers: Line up several colors and sizes of bears. Then give your child directions such as, “Find the 3rd green bear,” or “What color is the fifth bear?”. Soon after my children start talking and are able to communicate, I would hear them not only repeat the numbers to me while we counted, but even start counting on their own.

Teddy Bear Preschool Theme Counting Activities– Are you doing a teddy bear theme in your homeschool? These cards are perfect for that. Alphabet Match Game– There are 26 counting bear cards to put together and match the colors and the letters of the alphabet in this fun game. Counting Bears Cards

How do I use counting bears?

The math curriculum at my kids’ school has a strong focus on ten frames, so I was excited to find some wonderful ten frame teaching ideas at Boy Mama Teacher Mama. I printed these frames for free and used them in a game with my Five and Seven. They each rolled a die, put that number of bears on the frame, and then chose a different color of bears to fill in the rest of the frame. Finally, they wrote an addition problem to show an answer up to ten. My little guy loved matching the colored bear to the dot, and I counted along with him as he worked. Our little learning session was under five minutes, which is quite typical for this age. Whata great way to introduceone-to-one correspondence! 3 – Addition, Number Sense – Bears in Ten Frames The directions are simple: fill each letter with teddy bear counters until you’ve completed your entire name. One benefit to this activity as it gives students a chance to “trace” the letters of their name without having to use a pencil/marker. Manipulating the bear counters and filling in each letter with them is a great opportunity for visual learners to take a “mental snapshot” of the picture/word they are creating (Do you ever remember where something is written in a book? The location of the words on the paper/color of the writing/and even font? Visual learners can remember information easier when their visual cortex is stimulated. This activity is a great way help early learners do that!) The bears are at the park! 3 bears go down the slide. 2 bears swing on the swing set. How many bears are there in all?
