Description

The Lion First Bible is a collection of 64 Bible stories, starting with the creation of the world and ending with the book of Revelations. The stories are rewritten from their original text into short, easy-to-read chapters that can be easily understood by young children. Each of the chapters has a title, such as ‘The Saddest Day’ for the chapter about Good Friday, and hand-drawn pictures that add meaning to the story. The Lion First Bible omits a few stories sometimes included in other children’s bibles, such as Cain and Abel; the Tower of Babel; and the day when Jesus turned water into wine. But the omission of these stories does not take away from the bible itself; the Lion First Bible covers all of the major stories any Christian child should know. This bible is good introduction for very young children to the foundations of Christianity.

Each story is a short rewriting of a notable passage from the Bible, with illustrations interspersed throughout the book. Unlike many other children’s bibles which have more illustrations than text, this Bible is more focused on the stories themselves and the lessons that can be learned from these famous stories. This version of the Bible is best suited for parents who want to read their children more detailed Bible stories, or for young readers aged 8 and up. Those who often face this problem would do well to use the ESV Study Bible. This edition of the Bible has over 20,000 notes that provide context and answer frequently asked questions about certain well-known verses. The ESV Study Bible also provides historical information like timelines, lists of Roman and Hebrew rulers throughout the years of the Bible and maps of ancient lands for reference. This version of the Bible is not suited for all- its bulky size and copious notes might baffle someone looking for an easy read. But readers who want to have an academic understanding of the text will enjoy reading through this Bible.Similar to the Poverty and Justice Bible, the Freedom Bible shows how God can set people free from the hardship they face in life. This CSV Bible is quite extensive, with over 3,500 verses highlighted to show their connection with the Church’s teachings on freedom. In the Bible’s introduction the Group Chief Executive of the Bible Society, James Catford, says he was inspired to compile this version of the Bible after visiting many jails in the UK as a motivational speaker. He met with prisoners who desperately needed guidance about how to overcome their sadness and anger. The Freedom Bible aims to help individuals in similar circumstances by highlighting the ways God has helped people in their moments of weakness and fear. The Freedom Bible also includes a section called “Inner Freedom” in which theologians discuss certain passages of the Bible, such as Luke 4.15-21, and explain how these passages encourage freedom for oppressed or weak people. This Bible would be a great help to people who feel they are held captive by the difficulties in their lives.
