This author’s writing is so simple and straightforward, but her storytelling is potent, as is her ability to construct a tension-filled plot. There was a brief explanation about some things that happened in his childhood but it wasn’t developed really. Grace thought her life would eventually revolve around the care of her younger sister, Millie, who has Down syndrome, and if she could find a man she loved along the way, all the better.

When Grace Harrington meets Jack Angel in Regent’s Park in London, he seems like the perfect man—smart, kind, and even more attractive than George Clooney. I'm completely baffled by all the five-star reviews for this one-dimensional yawnfest; the contrived storyline has to rank as one of the most implausible of all time.As the old saying goes, nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors and my goodness nobody would guess what was going on in Jack and Grace Angel’s home.

Though Jack has shown Millie a lovely yellow bedroom (yellow is her favorite color) where she will live, he actually plans to keep her in the red basement room. However, she still finds it comforting to be able to socialize from time to time, even if it might not lead to anything. A truly chilling story of a husband and wife that is seemingly perfect in all respects – except for what happens behind closed doors.Even if the story is about a married couple, the story doesn’t have any romance, which was fine by me. A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been. This institution which has 1000's of members has succeeded where other secret societies have failed - concealing its secrets and mysteries from the outside world. She is in a special school where she lives but she's supposed to go and live with Jack and Grace after she turns eighteen.

I’d stopped enjoying the book soon after I started and only hung in there to see if it would improve. as Millie is going to live with Jack and Grace once she turns 18, and leaves the facility she has been living at.Vickery is rare as an author who can speculate as to how certain events might actually have felt to those involved, whilst keeping the discussion firmly rooted in the sources and not seeming overfanciful. By shifting between the revelatory rather than romantic honeymoon and Grace’s life in the present, when Jack keeps her locked in their beautiful Spring Eaton home, Paris underscores Grace’s seemingly unassailable predicament, especially with Millie soon coming to live with the couple.

You never see Grace without Jack, she never answers the house phone, doesn’t have a mobile and often cancels lunch arrangements with her friends at the last minute – or Jack joins them. The *sickening* element is certainly present, but applied with a gentle hand and refrains from growing too dark or heavy.

I actually thought the blurb gave too much away, and I wish I’d gone into this book without having read it. As he closes it behind me, I can’t help thinking it’s a shame he’s such a sadistic bastard, because he has wonderful manners.
