About this deal

When super villain King Crab overwhelms the super spy service, there’s nobody but Agent9 to step into the breach. She and FIN race to town to intercept the shipment of the heat ray and figure out a plan to rescue all of the other Super-Secret Spy Service agents. Agent 9's adventures zing along at breakneck speed, peppered with great one-liners and fish-flavoured snacks.

Nine—along with a robotic partner named FiN—is all that stands between King Crab and his diabolical plans to melt the polar ice caps and build a massive water park. These illustrations are so good that they make me wish I could see them in an animated series which just emphasizes how much the author understands how to create imagery that can dazzle and bring a sense of joy and adventure. This secret spy is forced back into the game when supervillain King Crab has captured all the agent's.

The plot is fantastic fun and laugh-out-loud - the author clearly delights in using the narrative clichés of this genre with the bumbling secret agent and the super villain who can't resist blurting out his evil genius plan far too soon. Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world. This is a super fun secret agent graphic novel with a likable, if flawed, feline agent and her wise robot fish FiN sidekick. But when bumbling supervillain King Crab manages to overtake S4 headquarters, there is no one else to turn to.

The fact I saw it when it was over two years old and we've only had one sequel suggests the franchise didn't really take off, which was a surprise – there may be hundreds of books like this out there, but this was a friendly and enjoyable one, and for once not something so daft and gaudy people over a certain age were excluded. Which is awesome because she is prepared when King Crab kidnaps all of the other agents so they won't thwart his evil plan to melt the ice caps with a giant heat ray, flood the world and then open his own water based theme park! Can Agent 9 prove to be the right cat for the job by overcoming impulsive behavior and saving the world from a complete flood-a-geddon? Of course, Agent 9's impulsiveness interferes with her plans but she and FIN manage to reach King Crab's headquarters - but FIN is captured!

Agent 9 has to learn to breathe and pause before acting here… because she destroys a lot and makes her job harder. The only thing standing in his way is Agent 9 as well as her robotic assistant FiN who will try to put an end to Crab’s plans before he can initiate Flood-A-Geddon. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! But before O can assign them a new mission, he and all the other ‘super-silly spy agents’ are kidnapped by supervillain King Crab.

She won’t be alone as her robotic assistant FiN also gets some time to shine even despite the fact he only uses one word to talk. It’s a fantastic independent book seller that will actually be responsive and select appropriate books for you. Feline Super Spy Agent 9 can be a bit of a disaster when it comes to foiling super villains - there always seems to be a trail of destruction in their wake. He's spent over twenty years working undercover in the animation industry on movies and television shows, including Bravest Warriors , Space Jam , Treasure Planet , The Emperor's New Groove , The Powerpuff Girls, and The Iron Giant .

I really enjoyed that he learns his lesson to think things through and be patient which is something I could learn to do too! After being put on probation for her clumsy actions when trying to stop evil threats, Agent 9 is given one more chance to redeem herself as she finds herself in the middle of an evil plot by King Crab as he plans to melt the polar ice caps and flood the earth so he can build his own water park. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. If there is a sequel on the way, I would love to see more characters work alongside Agent 9, but the cast that we do get satisfies well enough to make for an enjoyable secret agent mission.

Although it's standard graphic novel fare, Agent 9 is still sure to be a hit with the MG graphic novel crowd. She is 8 years old and this is her first graphic novel but it certainly won’t be her last because she thinks it’s amazing and doesn’t want to put it down!

This led James to a long career working in animation on various feature films and television shows, including Space Jam, the Iron Giant, the Emperor’s New Groove, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Home on the Range, Wow Wow Wubbzy, the Bravest Warriors and most recently the reboot of the Power Puff Girls (just to name a few). Fast-paced, fun and with bags of appeal through Agent 9's determination to win through against the odds, the story will keep readers gripped. A joyous and charming book - entertaining and witty, this will have so many fans in school and will get passed around class with great delight.
