None of the events in the book were expected through my eyes – I was sure they had discovered who did the crime when yet another suspect was introduced!

There are twists and turns throughout and I really felt that I was there witnessing this crime unfold. The beginning was a little confusing with a large number of characters being introduced and then having little role going forward. On opening night as he entered the stage, a chandelier dropped from the ceiling but it was at this moment that Elizabeth Sancho saw Dido Belle, the first black girl her age that she has seen. Once again it is up to the two girls to unveil the truth and put an end to the villainy that plagues the city. They are both Black which, personally, I find inspiring as not many books include Black people let alone Black women. The support and passion within the Black community (and Lizzie’s own family) is brilliantly depicted, shot through as it is with sadness about their brothers and sisters who are still in slavery.

She is passionate about storytelling to give voice to those rarely heard and walks the city to uncover its secrets.

When something life-threatening happens, Lizzie and Belle quickly realise that there’s something more to this case. It also emphasises rights for Black people, so I think it will be a good story to be shared during Black History Month. The second id the theatre, where the crime happens, and is therefore the main place of investigation. Set in late eighteenth century London Drama and Danger is full of mystery with a hint of Hamilton style and Bridgerton fashion but it is inspired by true Black British historical figures. This is told at pace and the reader is totally caught up in the story, told sometimes in letters, with occasional notes as to where the two are in their deductions.
