The many subplots are skillfully interwoven, and the author's sheer stamina commands respect; but the novel is complicated, not complex, overstuffed with familiar, featherweight themes. Going into the book I thought that it could be fun, especially as I knew Diana Gabaldon had had some influence on Donati's writing (as Donati herself acknowledges in her Notes). I had an agent at the time that I wasn’t really happy with and she introduced me to the agent I have now. So similar to the post “Finding My Next Shura” where Beth enlisted several friends to find a new book boyfriend, I needed to replace Jamie and Claire’s place at our holiday dinner table conversations (I said don’t judge!

And she meets a man different from any she has ever encountered — a white man dressed like a Native American, tall and lean and unsettling in his blunt honesty. Elizabeth Middleton, an Englishwoman, arrives in upper New York State in December 1792 with the hopes of fulfilling a lifelong dream, to be a schoolteacher. They seem to always know what I need when I need it-and the absolute joy, heartache, sorrow, love and hate emotions I've just gone through while reading this exceptional book is enough to last me a life time. I'm currently reading the fourth book "Fire Along the Sky" and on page 69 it says "Over the years three women had borne him eleven children, and five of those survived" - him being Nathaniel. After reading all the books, in a fashion to do any reading addict proud, I can report that this series is binge worthy and more than capable of helping you through your Outlander book withdrawal. One day the subject of the Battle of Saratoga came up and Diana mentioned that she had used the battle as a setting for a scene, and this happened just as I was writing a similar scene. If you've read INTO THE WILDERNESS or any of Sara Donati's other books, feel free to post your reactions here (whether positive or negative).

She soon meets and falls in love with Nathaniel Bonner, a white man who was raised by Native Americans. Claire, Jamie, and their nephew Ian are actually alluded and then toasted to about 100 pages into Wilderness.Listen, when you are a mom of teenage and tween girls, escaping reality is a mode of survival and a hot book boyfriend is key to achieving that. I zipped through this book in four days, ignoring laundry, dishes and my spouse (I did feed the kids) because the story was so darn engrossing. The novel follows the adventures of Elizabeth and Nathaniel, as they elope, flee together into the Mohawk lands, and try to stay one step ahead of Nathaniel's arch-rival, Richard Todd.

Torn apart, the Bonners must embark on yet another perilous voyage…this time all the way across the ocean to the heart of Scotland, where a wealthy earl claims kinship with Nathaniel’s father, Hawkeye. Glancing up at the cloud that billowed above us, I saw glowing embers being fanned into flame by a fierce wind stirring in the heavens. Elizabeth and Nathaniel have a number of adventures, both separately and together, but I never really felt drawn into their lives on an emotional level, the way that I do when reading Diana Gabaldon's books.Comencé el libro sin saber ese dato, pero era inevitable que la ambientación y la caracterización de los personajes no me recordaran a esa maravillosa película, hasta que Elsa me abrió los ojos (gracias! Reading ‘Into the Wilderness’ I started to think that Diana Gabaldon and Sara Donati have very different strengths and weaknesses – and it often occurred to me that one’s faults was the other’s forte.

But a deeper understanding of sin demands three additional categories: fear, dishonesty, and despair. Elizabeth and Nathaniel Bonner have settled into their life together at the edge of the New-York wilderness in the winter of 1794 when Elizabeth gives birth to healthy twins. I’m going to attempt to summarise each of the blurbs for the rest of this article so that you can get a feel for what the series is about. Turning to Moses, he said, ‘You are too cowardly to fight your own battles, so you bring your dog to fight for you? This is a fictional story filled with historical information and action-adventure along the lines of Diana Gabaldon (minus the paranormal bits). A new series based on later generations of the same families was launched September 1, 2015 with The Gilded Hour. I wish I had simply stopped with the last chapter and forever held fond memories in my mind of these characters I had come to love. I found myself comparing it too much to DG's writing at first which was a mistake - they are very different authors and once I leared to appreciate Donati's style and prose and let go of my DG obsession (I bring this to every book I read! They stood leaning toward each other across the awkward expanse of their snowshoes, joined like a wishbone by the soft suckling of mouths.
