While in Provence, Carolyne can be found hiking with friends, riding the hills around the Alpilles or tackling Mont Ventoux. The author's bleak battle with the elements, a rather smelly sheep and a fickle electricity supply is delightfully counterbalanced with impressions of French life, customs, neighbours, food and of course wine. The birds get out and eat the vegetables in the vegetable patch – they are like chicken ninjas and scale high fences and creep along branches of trees Mission Impossible style and they eat the flowers too, jumping up to munch on rose petals. Many are mediocre accounts of tussles with the legendary bureaucracy (as if we don’t have such a thing at home), strained relationships with local dignitaries and neighbours, and, for some, an inevitable surrender and retreat.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. A great read if you've done it you will appreciate every line of Janine's book , if you haven't don't let it put you off the end results are well worth it.

The author’s new life in France started out quite differently to most ex-pats though: whilst on one of her regular day trips to pick up cheap wine in northern France, she purchased an old barn in the rural Seven Valleys area of Pas de Calais.

It was a well- rounded adventure and included acquiring four legged and two legged animals with compassion.Of this last group many are just a little bit mad, often leaving a comfortable life at home surrounded by jobs, family and friends to start up new lives often with no jobs, no family and possibly only the hint of a new career. It's not just the landmarks, like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre museum, that make us fall in love with Paris. Drinking wine that was made on this same vineyard, or at least, in the same region, by a friendly neighbour. That auspicious day turned into a new address, a change of lifestyle and jettisoned both Janine and Mark Marsh towards fresh career pursuits.

Marsh does some of that, and she takes the reader with her adventure to resettle in France from her busy work life in London, a rather popular theme among those ex-pats in France and Italy and other places. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. These are the true tales of Janine’s rollercoaster ride through a different culture – one that, to a Brit from the city, was in turns surprising, charming and not the least bit baffling. We learn new skills and evolve in ways we could never have dreamt possible, simply because anything seems possible, we feel free. In My Good Life in France, she narrates the true story of negotiating the local inhabitants, French bureaucracy, tradesmen, culture and etiquette.
