As Julian Thompson makes plain in this account, the lions' share of the fighting on land fell to 3 Commando Brigade. A well told great story for anyone that has a great interest in the Falklands War and the Royal Marines and not forgetting the account of Navy Party 8901. The fighting on land was crucial to success: navies can lose wars, but only land forces can win them. Generally, this book does a good job of informing the professional and amateur war historians as to the particulars of the war.

The second, in Bosnia, Curtis found himself working closely with all factions and leading a protection team guarding visiting heads of state. The Falklands War There and Back Again was a most enjoyable, entertaining read and I would heartily recommend it. The Paras largely distanced themselves from Bramley, claiming post-combat mental illness and the police investigation yielded nothing, yet there are some who believe this to be a cover-up, and I know personally that the version seen on Page 190 is not the original but a revised version of Bramley’s original words which were considered too controversial for print. Following on from Nick's book My Friends the Enemy this new book seeks to show in a pictorial way the Falklands War in a new and absorbing way.A sound command structure was imposed upon a wide range of ships and men and San Carlos Water was chosen for the assault on the islands and subsequent inshore operations.

Interesting relics of colonialism, even in the 1980s, such as the repetitive mention of "Chinese laundrymen". Major Mike Norman joined the Royal Marines in 1962 and served for thirty years, spending much of his time in commando units or training establishments. Soldiers, sailors and airmen risked, and in some cases gave, their lives for the freedom of 1,820 islanders. The book tells us how things actually were, at the sharpest of sharp ends, at a critical moment for Britain. Carlos Gamerro: 'I wanted to recreate in this fictional world the different levels on which this war existed. The Malvinas for the Argentines are a kind of religion, but this is another matter, and certainly the huge number (for the few days that the war actually lasted) of fallen, often only conscript boys and with little training, which the South American forces had, plays a part in the matter. The First Casualty – The Untold Story of the Falklands War” was the first book to incorporate all three sides of the Falklands conflict, to include the British and Argentine veterans of the war and the Falkland Islanders themselves in the first ever three-sided, first-person narrative history ever produced. As the book explains, the initial media information was unfairly negative and caused a good deal of distress to that 'band of brothers' who were totally prepared to die for their country - and genuinely thought they were about to. the text is a groundbreaking study of the Falklands War through the lens of British political culture.

This still remains one of my most enjoyed books on the Falklands War and is compelling reading fro start to finish. This was written soon after the conflict itself, and contains many great sections of interviews with soldiers who fought on the remote and unlikely battlefield.D Company was the Cinderella of 2 PARA, at the back for everything: on training, always in reserve; in barracks, the parking lot for those who proved too troublesome for A and B. When 3 Commando Brigade landed at San Carlos on 21 May to retake the islands he commanded the newly formed J Company in 42 Commando and was in Stanley to see the Argentinian surrender. The book written by Norman and Jones is a look at a little known aspect of the Falklands / Malvinas war. The first of his SAS operations that Curtis details took place in Iraq where he spent several weeks behind enemy lines.
