He never notices the short green guys who watch from a distance, steal a cupcake from his picnic lunch and crowd into a wordless spread to mug for readers. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. This book was shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Award (2003) and won the Blue Peter Book of the Year (2004) and it is very easy to see why. With its bold, quirky illustrations and charming story of a lunar caretaker, Simon Bartram’s Man on the Moon series has become a modern picture book classic. Grandma has just mailed a copy to a young cousin in Western Australia, so hopefully Bob and his aliens (what aliens?

And Bob manages all of this whilst apparently blissfully unaware of some rather huge and important information! Simon has introduced loads of children's books but is perhaps best known for his series of books following Bob the astronaut including, The Alien-Spotter's Handbook and in the picture book sequel Bob's Best Ever Friend. With its colourful and droll illustrations that leap off the page, perfectly matched by the playful text, this wonderful picture book is as much of a treat to read whether you're a 4-year old or a 40-year old (or more)! This excellent picture book has enough depth to captivate pupils and is an entertaining storytime choice for Year 1 and 2. It is also big fun to discover every hidden aliens on the pages even the one slowly arriving to the Earth in his tiny flying saucer throughout all the pages. T found the aliens particularly funny, especially when they were hiding in plain sight as Bob went about his business! looks at a day in the life of Bob and what he gets up to on the moon: cleaning and tidying, welcoming vistors, performing tricks for tourists and much more.

They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated!I've managed to get two weeks worth of work out of this one book alone and barely scratched the surface! As the story progresses, the humorous narrative tells the reader that of course there are no aliens and that Bob is a Moon expert, but the illustrations clearly show aliens on each page - stealing his cake, hiding in a crater, in the bath tub. Having completed his daily crossword on the way, one of his first jobs is to clean up the mess he believes astronauts have created. I can imagine this story would be wonderful to teach in a Primary setting as there are many directions you could take with the concept of the 'man on the moon' - Space topics, looking at difference and developing visual literacy, among them.

Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. When Bob addresses human tourists, who wear bubble-shaped glass helmets over their ordinary clothes, he denies that aliens exist; observant readers will suspect otherwise. He exchanges his tweedy threads for a form-fitting white jumpsuit with a crescent moon on the chest, then boards a squat rocket for the moon.
