For classic films on 4K, this is the new demo disc to flash at your pals who don't see the point in upgrading.

It’s been suggested to me by someone who works in the film industry, too, that the film’s negative is unusually thin, and that mistakes were made with the exposure of the original negative - two problems now brought to light as never before by the HDR process. It became an instant favorite of mine since I was 10 years old and has remained that way for the last 25 years.

However, unlike many other extended or unexpurgated versions of films that routinely hit disc these days, 'The Final Cut' of Blade Runner' does not incorporate any substantial new footage (there are not, in fact, any new scenes inserted), so aside from the surface changes, there is really nothing "undiscovered" to be discovered here at all. The crew commentary is the perfect partner to Scott’s, giving us a superb mixture of on-set anecdotes and discussions of some of the film’s aesthetic choices. I suspect only true 'Blade Runner' disciples will take the time to actually listen to a commentary created for a workprint version of a movie, but it's just another sign of Warner's commitment and devotion to this project. Such moments are incredibly rare, though; for the most part this is not just the best Blade Runner has sounded, but actually one of my favorite sound mixes period.

It was a movie that few people saw in theaters during its initial run and even fewer thought much about it afterward. There was action, but not like the kind I'd seen in my favorite Schwarzenegger movies - the violence had an outcome. Setting a new standard for Blu-ray releases and supplemental material, Blade Runner seems to have just about every conceivable extra imaginable in this set. This long-anticipated follow-up to Ridley Scott's 1982 cult classic struggled to connect with viewers . Even if the nerd in me might have quite liked the 4K disc to give you the option of watching the theatrical and director’s cut versions as well, rather than only providing these versions on a separate accompanying HD Blu-ray.

Most controversial of all was the removal of the "unicorn scene" that suggested that Deckard himself may be a replicant. The five discs full of extras are also extraordinary, and it's hard to imagine any 'Blade Runner' fan wanting more. Considering Blade Runner The Final Cut was originally released with a rock solid audio mix, this new Atmos track breaks that mold. The lines between what is and isn’t human blur, as he wrestles with having to do his job and retire all the replicants. Despite having Harrison Ford in the lead role, his Deckard is subdued and unsympathetic, a cynical character who lives a lonely existence. Harrison Ford stars as Rick Deckard, a special brand of police officer, a Blade Runner to be more specific, assigned to the duty of killing any Replicants who make it back to Earth.
