Description

You score points based upon how many colors were needed, and if you were the first or second person to paint that feature. It’s competitive without ever feeling unfair or nasty in a way that competitive games can sometimes become. Demonstrating further that the publishers have gone to the nth degree with their component design, each player has a thick cardboard palette for readying their paints to apply to their chosen feature. Does this 2017 release from Big G Creative paint a beautiful portrait or does it feel like a toddler’s finger painting? That’s why I’m amazed an artist from an 80’s PBS painting show has had a resurgence in popularity over the last few years.

Plus this game really makes me want to hunt down some old episodes of the Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, and learn to paint. When time is up, players take turns sharing and explaining what they’ve drawn (usually followed by oohs, aahs, or laughter), and then everyone grabs another paper from the middle and does it all again.

Not only do they give you a 2 point bonus for each one collected, they can help add to your bonus scoring for painting features painted later in the game. One of the biggest differences is that players must first put their paint cards onto their Palette and commit them to one of the two areas where they get mixed. These cards each have a color and a paint brush type and are played onto a player’s paint palette in front of them to be used. I’ll admit that I’m a bit confused by them all – but I do believe that Prospero Hall is the name of the group that is responsible for the most strategic end of their games. I think players are going to come for the nostalgia, but they’ll stick around for the solid, light, family-friendly gameplay.

Furthermore, you must have a card in your hand which has the appropriate tool as shown in the feature box on the painting. Celebrate your creativity in this positive party game inspired by the wisdom of legendary painter Bob Ross. For a Eurogamer, it’s pretty easy to remember this… but, when I’ve played with non-gamers, the scoring requires constant re-teaching.Now choose a color, any color will do, pick up your palette and your tokens and you’re ready to play. This essentially telegraphs to the other players which features (based on the colors you have out) that you’re working towards. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I teach math for a living and enjoy time with my super awesome wife, awesome kids and almost as awesome dog. Of course, there is more to do than just painting – and it is a fairly viable strategy to race to pick up the Technique cards. This gives you an immediate 2 points along with a bonus point each time that paint or brush type is used in your painting. The possible features are Fluffy Clouds, Almighty Mountains, Wondrous Water, Charming Cabins, and Happy Little Trees.Lastly, a random painting is drawn and placed on the easel and the Bob Ross piece is placed at the left side of the painting on the easel shelf (first space of the Bob Ross track). And if you’ve been with us before, please allow me to thank you for inviting us back for another series of games and family fun. Ric taught us how to play the game, we got the kids involved and just days later had to purchase this great game. Given that there’s actual artwork involved, I feel like Happy Little Accidents better encapsulates the Bob Ross theme than the first game did.

In fact, we’ve had fun putting a video of the show (from Youtube) in the background as “mood music”. It’s a real pleasure to encounter games such as Back to the Future: Dice Through Time and Horrified, both based on perennially popular yet aging licenses, to find that the designs are incredibly strong and incorporate their themes deeply to be relevant to the stories they’re based on. Earn “chill points” by painting landscape features like Happy Little Trees and Almighty Mountains using colors and brushes from your hand of cards.

As soon as one player reaches the end of the Chill Points meter, the game immediately ends and that player is the winner! It wasn’t the most complex game in the world, but it was a good time and something cool to look at on the table. In the review, mentions are made to racing either the other players or the Bob token to completing the painting’s features. Since players can gain bonus Chill Points in various ways, players also need to take other things into consideration while playing.
