About this deal

This book confounds expectations - the reader could be forgiven for thinking it is a cross between "The X-files" and "Silence of the lambs". Okay, here we go: if you love Lovecraft like I do, and you are a fan of Alan Moore, like I am, then stay as far away from Neonomicon as is humanly possible, because it's an insult to both.

They aren't gratuitous--I'm not sure Moore is capable of writing gratuitous scenes--and it's a testament to Jacen Burrows' art that these are presented very matter-of-factly, not leered at. If you want to read LXG: The Horror Edition, give Neonomicon a whirl - I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of ticking off which references you got. Once The Courtyard story concludes we jump forward a couple of years and on to Neonomicon, where we meet Agents Brears and Lamper who are in the process of interrogating the now insane Sax. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.Moore gives us two protagonists: a black cop with no real personality to speak of, and his recovering-nymphomaniac partner, whose nymphomania appears to be the only noteworthy personality trait, so *obviously* it's what the characters have to talk about in regards to her all the time. the art is particularly interesting during this sequence, using the rape victim's blurry vision to startling effect. Alan Moore doesn’t hesitate to point out that Neonomicon and The Courtyard got certain inspiration from The Silence of the Lambs for some scenes and I guess that hadn’t mention The X-Files was intentional, since it would too obvious.

Three months later, Brears visits Sax and is able to understand his gibberish as Aklo, the language of the fishmen, based on R'lyehian the language of Yuggoth from Lovecraft's stories. The Neonomicon: After visiting Aldo Sax at the sanitarium, Agents Lamper and Brears pick up where he left off and head to Salem.Definitely not for the easily triggered (parts of Neonomicon are rough), it’s essential reading to prepare yourself for Providence and Providence is as significant a work in the Moore canon as Watchmen, V for Vendetta, From Hell or whatever else your favourite is.

Maybe some of you remember by review about Providence, if not, it’s relevant to say that the stories collected here, The Courtyard and Neonomicon are linked to Providence, which it serves as prequel AND sequel to the first two mentioned stories. Jacen Burrows is truly one of the rising stars in comic book illustration, who has dedicated his talents to Avatar Press projects exclusively throughout the years. The mind-melting effect that the Alko language seems it would have upon the human consciousness has precedent in Lovecraftian work. The big story, however shows understanding and respect for Lovecraft and heralds where Moore may take this story next. We watch as they become enmeshed in a world of mysterious cults, black magic and unimaginable sexual nightmares. This consists of the Courtyard (previously published as a graphic novel) and the four issues of Neonomicon series. After that, maybe you can make the choice to either read it or make sure you never lay hands on this. P. could only hint at due to the shackles of his time, it is splashed across the pages here in inglorious detail.
