Removing the Record fence was one of those wonderful delights even though I had paid too much for something to be so disliked. Just loosen the locking knob and lift the fence from the mounting rail, which is located below your tables surface so it wont get in the way. You want the hole for the bolt to be far enough away from the fence that you can get a hand drill in there. When assembling the fence, it's essential for the parts to be flush and square, because any inconsistencies will be reflected in the parts cut with the fence.

I am sure others who own such a fence feel differently but for me at least I felt that they were well made enough but poorly over-engineered to the degree that they had built-in complications. Here I'm cutting a piece of "Peruvian walnut," which will be used on an upcoming instructable I'm currently writing - making a keepsake box. The runner has an insert of ultra-high molecular weight (UHMW) plastic that’s slotted to fit over the angle iron and makes the runner glide easily on the rail. Hi Paul, I upgraded my Rigid bandsaw with the Kregg fence some time back and have since added the micro adjuster. As always, I'm still a relative newcomer to woodworking - if anyone has any corrections or additional information, please share it in the comments. Hi Paul, I may be able to make use of one of the fences that you’re not a fan of; I’ve used similar and found it fine for what I do, and would certainly be better that the fence that’s currently on my old Startrite (sadly not the same design as you’re old Startrite fence). Axminster Tool Centre Ltd trading as Axminster Tools is a credit broker and is Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. I do find it difficult to understand just how opposed the majority of Americans are to the metric system even though I do use both in my day to day work.

A hardwood spacer pushes the rail away from the front of the bandsaw table so the fence can ride on it.To use a blade on the other side of the blade you could also leave the new fence in place and put the old one on the opposite side of the blade.

Since I set the saw up according to a standard set of steps each time I change the blade, I can use the front of the saw's table as a reference point for distance from the blade when resawing.Straight off, I disliked the bandsaw fence that came standard and took a look at the Record Power version to retrofit with.

This fence mounts to most 14 inch (356mm) band saws right out of the box and can be modified to fit many others by drilling a single hole in the aluminium mounting rail. I unclamped the base from the table, then checked that the braces still fit and the fence was square to the base.I used the bandsaw to cut away the material, nibbling away until everything inside the box was cut away. I have a Rikon bandsaw with pretty much the same fence your bandsaws came with and I too replaced it with a Kreg. A carpenter’s box 2’x18″x9″ looks better then one made with metric measurements, There is a classical golden proportion, look at a 4’x3′ window as opposed to modern metric window sizes. To fix this, I cut out a square just in the middle so that the guide assembly can be lowered down to the height of the normal fence. There's a limit to how large and heavy a board you can do on most bandsaws anyway, depending on size.
