The Beauty of Suffering, a brand new featurette exploring the Cenobites connection to goth, fetish cultures and BDSM Hellbound: Hellraiser Ii expands on Barker’s original vision as screenwriter Peter Atkins takes Julia Cotton, her step daughter Kirsty (Ashley Laurence) and the sinister Dr. Channard (Kenneth Cranham) into the dominion of the Cenobites themselves. Hellraiser Iii: Hell on Earth sees Pinhead set loose on the sinful streets of New York City to create chaos with a fresh cadre of Cenobitic kin. Then, Hellraiser: Bloodline sinks its hooks into past, present and future with the story of Phillip LeMarchand, the 18th-century toymaker who made the lament configuration puzzle box, his descendent John Merchant - a 20th-century architect whose most recent building bears a striking resemblance to the lament configuration - and Dr. Paul Merchant, a 22nd-century engineer and designer of The Minos, a space station which is a great deal more than it seems. In an interview for Samhain magazine in July 1987, Barker mentioned some problems that censors had with more erotic scenes in the film:

If you said bonus features, then this boxset is going to put a huge smile on your face. Being Frank: Sean Chapman on Hellbound – archival interview about the actor’s return to the role of Frank Cotton In the United States, The New York Times stated that Barker cast "singularly uninteresting actors" while "the special effects aren't bad - only damp". [25] The Washington Post referred to the film as a "dark, frequently disturbing and occasionally terrifying film" but also argued that "Barker's vision hasn't quite made the conversion from paper to celluloid [...] There are some weaknesses, particularly the framing of close-ups and the generic score, but there are some moments of genuinely inventive gore [...] the film falls apart at its climax, degenerating to a surprisingly lame ending full of special effects and triumphant good". [26] Roger Ebert gave the film one-half of a star out of four and deemed it "as dreary a piece of goods as has masqueraded as horror in many a long, cold night. This is one of those movies you sit through with mounting dread, as the fear grows inside of you that it will indeed turn out to be feature length" and that "this is a movie without wit, style or reason, and the true horror is that actors were made to portray, and technicians to realize, its bankruptcy of imagination". [27] Variety stated that Hellraiser is "well made, well acted, and the visual effects are generally handled with skill". [2]Unrated Version: (HD/SD 1:36:38) This cut of the film runs a few minutes longer but mostly only showcases some more blood and nudity. Since these extra scenes' original elements elements were missing, they were taken from a fullscreen LaserDisc so the quality notably shifts when they crop up, similar to how Scream Factory added scenes for their 'Exorcist III: Legion' cut, but of a decidedly higher quality. Clive Barker On Set Interview: (SD 3:18) This is a very brief EPK feature that was included on the old VHS. Film opens at the funeral of Adam, one of the friends who was obsessed with the game and was murdered by the Cenobites after, unknowingly, releasing them by solving the puzzle box, which was in his father's possession. Other LeMarchand boxes appear throughout the Hellraiser film series. Dr. Philip Channard is depicted as a collector in Hellbound: Hellraiser II; he has three on display in his study and later in the film, some of the patients in his institute are seen with them hooked to their faces. The demon princess Angelique is narrated to have created several in Hellraiser: Bloodline. The Host in Hellraiser: Hellworld also possesses several. Most of the boxes seen in the films are not named or used onscreen, so their powers — if any — are unknown. They may simply be fakes or nonfunctional replicas. Limited to just 5,000 copies (although the films themselves will no doubt receive individual releases in the future), Hellraiser: The Scarlet Box offers brand new restorations of Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II and Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, plus a cornucopia of goodies that even manages to put those from the old DVD boxset to shame. Hellraiser: Resurrection: (SD 24:26) This is a collection of vintage interviews with Braker, Doug Bradley, Ashley Laurence, Bob Keen and other players in the film. Still not enough for you? Well how about a fourth Blu-ray platter housing Barker’s early experimental shorts Salome (18-minutes) and The Forbidden (43-minutes), with optional intros from the director? Also appearing on this bonus disc are a 20-minute overview of Barker’s novels and short stories by novelist David Gatward; a 48-minute documentary entitled Hellraiser Evolutions, which explores the evolution of the franchise and its legacy; and a 32-minute fan film The Hellraiser Chronicles: A Question of Faith, which was made in 2005 to demonstrate the potential of a possible Hellraiser TV series (although, after watching it, it’s easy to see why it never happened). That Rat-Slice Sound - brand new appreciation of composer Christopher Young’s scores for Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser Ii by Guy Adams Under the Skin: Doug Bradley on Hellraiser: (SD 12:31) Bradley discusses how he came to know Barker and getting involved with the film.
