About this deal

The occasional bite or sting from an insect is something most of us have experienced, especially during warmer weather. It's normal to experience some itching or pain when this happens, but occasionally a bite or sting can lead to an allergic reaction or an infection. Read on for some pointers on how to recognise this, and how to treat bites and stings generally. For adults, the elderly, and children over two years of age, the cream should be applied 2 to 3 times a day for up to 3 days. If your symptoms have not improved after 3 days (or if you feel worse) you should talk to a doctor or a pharmacist. When should I not use Anthisan Bite and Sting Cream? The best creams for skin rashes target the pain of itching (for example, an anaesthetic cream) or the cause of rash (for example, an antihistamine cream). For the best results, go for a belt-and-braces approach and use both. Indeed, a couple of our recommended creams contain both local anaesthetics and antihistamines. Insect bites and stings can be uncomfortable or irritating, but are usually nothing to worry about, and can nearly always be treated successfully at home. To treat a bite or sting: As with all corticosteroids, application to the face may damage the skin and should be avoided. Caution should be taken to keep away from the eyes.

Topical corticosteroids are not generally indicated in psoriasis excluding widespread plaque psoriasis provided that warnings are given. Anthisan bite and sting cream is used for relieving the skin redness, swelling, itching and pain associated with insect bites or stings and nettle rash. These can often be found on household pets. Flea bites are small, red and itchy, and usually occur in clusters. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed on the label. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at: www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine. Note that if bitten by a horsefly, you're more susceptible to infection than with other bites. This is because horsefly bites cut open your skin, rather than piercing it, meaning bites are larger and slower to heal. To help prevent bites, ensure your skin stays covered if you spend time around horses.Do not use Anthisan Bite and Sting Cream if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to mepyramine maleate or any of the other ingredients listed.

Hives and psoriasis cause itching beneath the surface of your skin. Hives are particularly common in summer because the condition is exacerbated by sweat, so keep your skin dry, your clothes loose, and your anti-itch cream close at hand. If you have experienced a bite or sting, your local Boots pharmacy is the first place you can go for advice. They can help advise you about medicines that can help ease the symptoms of a bite or sting, such as antihistamines, steroid creams and painkillers. The cream is most effective when applied as soon as possible after getting the bite or sting. How to use Anthisan cream If you would like to speak in private, most of our stores have a private consultation room where you can speak to a member of our pharmacy team discreetly.Although generally regarded as safe, even for long-term administration in adults, there is potential for adverse effects if overused in infancy. Extreme caution is required in the dermatoses of infancy including napkin eruption. In such patients, courses of treatment should not normally exceed seven days. No appointment is required, simply pop down to your local pharmacy to see if a member of our team is available to chat. During busier periods, a pharmacist may not be available and waiting times can vary. Benzocaine is a local anaesthetic that soothes pain and itching really fast. It’s gentle enough to use on all kinds of itchy skin rash, but as with most active ingredients you’ll want to avoid getting benzocaine on skin that you’ve damaged by scratching. It's a good idea to take a picture of the insect that has stung or bitten you. If this isn't possible, make a mental note of where and when you were bitten. This can help medical professionals identify what insect bit or stung you and therefore give you the most appropriate treatment, should you need it. In the UK, mosquito bites rarely cause anything more than itchiness, but in some overseas regions, they can spread malaria. Ensure you take precautions to help prevent malaria if you're travelling to a country where the disease can be caught. This may include taking malaria prevention tablets. Speak to your GP or pharmacist if you’re planning to visit an area with a risk of malaria well in advance of your scheduled travel.

Topical corticosteroids are ineffective in granulomatous conditions and other inflammatory reactions involving the deeper regions of the dermis. There is no good evidence that topical corticosteroids are efficacious against immediate (Type 1) allergic skin reactions or short-lived weal and flare reactions from other causes. Visual disturbance may be reported with systemic and topical corticosteroid use. If a patient presents with symptoms such as blurred vision or other visual disturbances, the patient should be considered for referral to an ophthalmologist for evaluation of possible causes which may include cataract, glaucoma or rare diseases such as central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) which have been reported after use of systemic and topical corticosteroids. Bites and stings can also become infected, which, if left untreated, can lead to further problems. Early signs of infection include: Epidermal thinning, telangiectasia and striae may occur in areas of high absorption such as skin folds, the face and where occlusive dressings are used. Local atrophic changes may occur in intertriginous areas or in nappy areas in young children where moist conditions favour hydrocortisone absorption. To reduce the risk of infection, avoid scratching and don't burst any blisters that form. If a young child has been bitten or stung, trim and clean their fingernails. For babies, you can buy anti-scratch cotton mittens
