Description

On February 27th 1973, EMI Records held a press conference for the debut presentation of Pink Floyd’s new album The Dark Side Of The Moon at the London Planetarium. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. The 50th Anniversary release of the iconic album has continued being celebrated as Pink Floyd invited a new generation of animators to enter a competition, curated by Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell of Hipgnosis, to create music videos for any of the 10 songs on the iconic 1973 album. For anyone who already owns Dark Side on vinyl, all you're really paying for is that incremental improvement. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished for their extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics and elaborate live shows.

So, would I be happy sticking with the second-best recording of my favourite album ever, or get this? First released as part of ‘ The Dark Side Of The Moon’ 50th Anniversary Box Set, this is the first time that the new mix of the classic album will be available on its own in physical formats. It is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the US on 1 March and then in the UK on 16th March 1973. One of the most famous albums in rock history, Pink Floyd’s 1973 juggernaut ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ gets a new remaster to mark half a century since its release. That said, if unlike me you haven't accumulated a pile of versions already, then this is probably worth it and hopefully represents the final word.

The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in March 1973. Unlike the remix of Animals, this retains the same dynamics, I found I still listened to the same moments in the same way, but the clarity is the thing. Other items featured in the set include a 160-page hardcover book of photographs from the 1973 – 1974 tours by Jill Furmanovsky, Aubrey Powell, Peter Christopherson, and Storm Thorgerson; a 76-page songbook containing sheet music of the original album; two seven-inch singles of " Money"/" Any Colour You Like" and " Time"/" Us and Them"; a replica pamphlet and invitation to the album launch event at the London Planetarium on 27 February 1973; and four posters - two of which are replicas of the original posters supplied with the album.

Pink Floyd announce the upcoming stand-alone release of the newly remastered ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ on CD, LP and Blu-ray.
