It is hard not to agree, but this is a fascinating glimpse of the ups and downs of an election race like no other.

Trump’s disregard for political norms, campaign gaffes, and “woman, man, camera, TV” just don’t seem as funny anymore.Reagan is excited at the idea she will promoted but is annoyed when she learns she will be co-leading the team with Brett Hand. Whatever the Trump administration’s lasting effects for the nation and for the world, it was at least good for Sopel’s career – he got three books out of covering 45’s nonsense. This biography of Donald Trump is as captivating as it is disturbing, and not surprisingly because sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction.

Myc and Gigi are seen taking a selfie on the moon landing set, a reference to the infamous moon landing conspiracy. The far too precedented act of violence against Floyd, coming the day after the official US coronavirus death toll passed 100,000, found America disastrously unpresidented, led by a man who can acknowledge the deaths of his compatriots neither en masse nor one by one.

I had known little of his history prior to the election -- I watched an episode of a docu-series on Netflix that really dug into that after -- but this book added so much more depth and understanding. Particularly relevant to the present crisis is the way the Central Park assault turned on the notion of racially motivated violence. He was talking about Native people of tribal nations in Connecticut who had casinos that hurt "little guys" like him. The context of the pandemic makes the lies and utter lack of principle deeply shocking and the picture of the USA so bitterly divided – especially over race – is stark.

To avoid making this mistake, it’s important to remember the difference in meaning between the two words. I am a moderate Democrat but have church friends and conservative family members who are very supportive of the president. The book takes the form of a series of diary entries, or postings, in which Sopel updates his thoughts as events unfold. It is striking that the US currently has a president who, so far as we know, has never even read the constitutional amendments (the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth) that emerged from the Civil War.

Overall, UnPresidented is a thought-provoking book, although I don’t know how the tension during the 2020 election will be remembered in the next few decades in history, about two old guys over their seventies fought for the presidency of the US during the time when coronavirus has been claiming a large number of lives with the elderly as its main target. As more of this presidency unwinds, this book will rapidly become out of date, but although it only goes up to 2018, it is a sufficiently detailed account and offers great background on Donald Trump, and a good rundown of the 2016 election.
