Description

Even though it does what it’s meant to do, there’s very little (if anything) innovation displayed. It’s not as small as many other mini devices and weighs almost the same as some large devices.

Hyperice Hypervolt 2 - Featuring Quiet Glide Technology

In our opinion, that statement is outrageously blasphemous and the gods of stall force, we’re sure are not impressed. Hyperice as we know is one of the industry pioneers along with the much famed Theragun (recently Therabody). Some might argue that they have been long-term rivals.

Size

However, that’s just about the pros that this gun has over the others. Otherwise, there are plenty of cons in comparison with the Bantam, or even Theragun Mini 2.0: The stall force is pretty low – and very disappointing to say the least. It takes very little force to stall the device (have you seen that on our video?). Hyperice doesn’t provide the stall force information and we had to do our own tests. It comes with 5 attachment heads, which is awesome because with a full set there’s more to your massage session. If you were thinking of hitting your glutes, quads, or hamstring with pressure in hope for a deep percussive massage, this device will disappoint you. Little official scientific research has been conducted on the effects of massage guns, but many medical professionals have expressed that these devices have certain benefits. Doctors often recommend massage guns to patients who want to reduce muscle soreness/stiffness, improve flexibility, and increase range of motion after an injury or difficult workout. Massage guns like the Hypervolt work by using percussion technology to increase blood flow and soften tissue, ultimately reducing muscle pain.

Hyperice Hypervolt GO 2 review: Superb portable massage gun - T3

We will also, for a wider perspective, share with you some good alternatives to both brands. So follow along as we take you through the most comprehensive Theragun vs Hypervolt guide on the internet! The first Hypervolt was promoted as a vibrational therapy device. The focus was more on what was already famous as a recovery method. Theragun, on the other hand unveiled their first product as a percussive therapy device. They decided to go with something that would go deep into the muscle tissue. This was quite innovative as not many devices offered this at the time. Theragun made it clear from the outset that their focus was on percussive, not vibrational therapy. They emphasized this by designing their devices with long amplitude and more stall force. Overall, the Go has good ergonomics for a mini massage gun. However, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. A lot more devices on the market with even better ergonomics. It’s a bit disappointing that a highly priced massage gun only comes with two attachments. We have reviewed several mini devices that come with at least 3 attachments, some even 4. It’s an upgrade that actually lives up to the hype, and we’re excited to see what Theragun has in store for future iterations. We would recommend this for people who want to have a massage gun that can relieve slight pain in muscles, break lactic acid build-up, or just get a much needed session after a long day at the office. You’ll find the very reasonable stall force quite useful (we estimate it at upper 20s lbs, if not 30lbs.) Unlike the Theragun mini, we didn’t have any mixed feelings with this one. It doesn’t have any clear advantage(s) over the others. At least the Theragun gave us the unique design and a 12mm amplitude. We’ll share some points about how we feel:

Hypervolt 2 Pro - Featuring Quiet Glide Technology Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro - Featuring Quiet Glide Technology

Hypervolt is known for making ergonomic, lightweight, low-noise massage guns that provide a restorative percussion treatment to your body. And the Hypervolt 2 Pro is the most advanced, professional, and sleek version yet. We love its five speeds, pressure-sensing technology, and detachable battery. Like all Hypervolts, this massage gun also comes with a one-year warranty, the Hyperice app (which also includes guided meditations to help enhance your health and wellness routines) and is TSA-approved for carry-on. When fully charged, the flashing stops and the indicator turns solid green. Is the juice enough? Yes, the device can last for several days before you may need to charge it again. The capacity here is 2500mAh – decent capacity if you plan to have longer sessions with the device. The previous Go had a 2350mAh capacity. Another embellishment is the speed LED indicators found underneath the handle right around the charging port. An odd place to have those, but you probably won’t need them because there are only 3 speed gears that you can hear and feel as you use the device.

Battery Life

On paper, this kind of setup is very good for the job, but as we mentioned above, the Go 2 has a tendency to slowing down percussions under even little pressure – and we find it pretty unfortunate. In our tests, the Hypervolt Go 2 reaches 3200 RPM at its third gear but slows down under pressure. The result was a rattling sound that felt pretty annoying. We believe this problem has been fixed with the current model. From our tests, we are certain this Go 2 has between 10-15 pounds of stall force. That means 10 pounds will stall the first gear, and about 15 pounds will stall the third gear – the highest.

Unlike Ekrin or Lifepro which offer a lifetime warranty and amazing customer service, Hyperice will only give you a 1-year warranty. Sadly we have to conclude, after using both old and new devices, this Go 2 feels like Go 1.1 and not 2.0. When it came to the initial versions, the original Hypervolt Go had Theragun beat, granted the first generation Theragun Mini only came with one attachment head. With the Mini 2.0, however, you get three foam attachments for a more personalized experience (a dampener, a standard ball, and a thumb) as opposed to the Hypervolt Go 2’s two interchangeable attachments (a flat head and bullet head). Smart Guidance With An AppThe companion app is one of our favorite things that Hyperice has to offer. This is a really useful tool for anyone who doesn’t know how to use a massage gun since there are guided sessions. Plus, as you’re making your profile, you can select the activities you participate in. Jake Using the Hypervolt Go 2 We can, however, recommend it to those who already own any of the regular sized Hypervolts just as a complimentary gun. The heads are interchangeable, so it makes sense to get one if you need something smaller and more portable. If you’re looking for more attachments or more speed settings than the Hypervolt Go 2 has to offer, you might want to explore some more advanced options. Not really a unique design – tons of guns look the same i.e. it borrows a leaf from Ekrin’s design book as far as the ergonomics go. Theragun mini looks pretty unique. It does’t have a traditional handle, yet still keeps the triangular shape. When it comes to the materials, it feels just like the Prime.
