Oliver, Reggie (1998). Out of the Woodshed: The Life of Stella Gibbons. London: Bloomsbury Publications. ISBN 0-7475-3995-2. Her first husband, whom she didn't love in the slightest, came along when Viola was twenty years old and badly in need of stability. Her father had just died, leaving her with no inheritance, and she was dubious about her ability to make her own way in the world. Again, she's not a terribly bright or proactive girl, but she does have a tender and impressionable nature, so it wasn't difficult for her aunts and acquaintances to convince her to accept the proposal.

Why I liked the book: I liked this book because it was interesting and you didn’t know what was going to happen. It was also really interesting because I couldn’t wait to find out who caused the flames. Why I didn’t like it: I didn’t like the book because it took a long time to find out who caused the fire in the woods. Mama is a very calm, kind hearted mum of Hen but when she gets drugged, she does not get to spend time with her daughter unless Henry sneeks into her room near the end of the book. Robert is Hen’s older brother who unfortunately died in a fire before the Abott family moved to Hope House. He comes down from heaven when Henry needs to fight her fears. Robert always finds a way to solve the problem. With both woodlands have been thinned in recent years, thinning will continue, if appropriate at the time, on a five year cycle for conifers and 10 year cycle for broadleaves. This book is about Henrietta, a 12 year old girl suffering from the loss of her older brother (Robert) and a mother being drugged by a mad doctor Mr. Hardy. Everything seems to be going wrong. Will she save the day? South Marston is not mentioned in the Domesday Book but has Saxon origins, mentioned as Merston in 1204. The settlement developed around the 11th century church of St Mary Magdalene, which still has the original walls of the nave, the north and south doorways and the font. The chancel is from the 13th century and the tower and west door were added in about 1615.

El diseño y la edición, imprescindibles, por dos razones: las portadas son atractivas y por ocasiones bellas, llaman la atención para los neófitos de la editorial; ese tipo de diseño es evidente que se ha convertido en un sello distintivo. The ending was happy and calm and I wouldn’t change a thing about, it but I wasn’t that happy when we finished because I didn’t want it to end!

The history of it makes me want to visit a house similar to the Hope House. The language is captivating and bewitching; I would love if there were a sequel. Lucy Strange has been successful in writing a piece of heart-felt literature. Speaking of a waltz at a charity ball, Gibbons says, “It was an exciting melody, slow and dreamy and strong, with the swaying rhythm beating through it like the sea under showers of foam. . . . People glanced at one another and laughed, and waded into the ocean of music as the moonlit bathers had gone out into the silver-green sea . . . and the dancers dreamed that life was beautiful, in a world toppling with monster guns and violent death.” That description drove me straight to YouTube to listen to the melody (the description was better than the tune, sigh). Like many others (judging from the introduction), my only familiarity with Stella Gibbons is from her first novel, Cold Comfort Farm, which I haven't actually read; I've just seen the movie a few times. I liked this cover, though, and the summary sounded interesting enough, so I snagged it from a library book sale despite its slightly ratty condition, and proceeded to cheerfully not read it for many years. This story is is set in the 1919. The main character, Henrietta, is all alone. Her mother is ill, her

Lucy Strange’s book is a historical fiction book. I think that everyone should read The Secret of Nightingale Wood, because it’s an amazing book, I like the good use of adventure and description. Those who love reading historical fiction I think this book is a really good choice of book for you. I think that this the best book I’ve read this year! A government initiative to create 14 Community Forests around the country resulted in South Marston acquiring Nightingale Wood and Oxleaze Wood as part of its hinterland. Further housing development in the early years of this century delivered St Julian’s Wood and Orchard Meadow. Montefiore, Janet (May 2006). "Smith, Florence Margaret (Stevie)". Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Online. (subscription required)There are strong parallels between Lee’s quest to record oral folk singers and his nightingale concerts. “When I visit a nightingale or go on an expedition to record an elder of a community singing some ancient song that has been passed down through the oral tradition, this is the same thing. It just happens to be a different language of song.” I thought it would be about a very happy sing-song book by looking at the cover. But boy was wrong… The only unrealistic part for me is about no one ever discovering that Moth was really the ‘dead’ Mrs Young, the previous owner of Hope House. She always had fresh food to give to Henry so she must have got her eggs from somewhere… It didn't mention history that much, so it didn't really let me think of history. I want to read a bit
